Potters
Born in Portland, Oregon in 1946 Steve Fullmer has always been fascinated by clay. After first visiting New Zealand in 1973, Steve emigrated in 1975 and established a studio at Mahana, near Nelson. For the next ten years he worked with a wood-fired kiln.
He relocated the studio to its present Tasman site in 1985, and began firing with diesel, then gas and finally electricity.
A recipient of the Fletcher Brownbuilt Award in 1986 and Fletcher Challenge International Award in 1987, Steve was influenced by the early studio potters in New Zealand.
He continues to work alone, enjoying the process of making pots from start to finish.
Steve Fullmer's pottery is all produced from earthenware clay and fired to 1160°c.
